History
The Swiss franc was introduced on 7 May 1850.
The Swiss franc was floated when the Bretton Woods agreement collapsed in 1971. A short-lived ceiling was implemented with the German mark in 1978 and then another ceiling with the EUR was implemented from 2011.
A floating exchange rate regime has been utilised since 15 January 2015 when the CHF EUR ceiling was discontinued. This led to rapid CHF appreciation.
The Swiss franc accounted for 5.0% of global FX turnover in April 2019.
