Current regime
Trading the CZK between market participants and across borders is unrestricted and the market price is primarily determined without central bank intervention.
Highly standardised payment processing.
It had been planned to adopt the Euro in 2010, but the plan was suspended indefinitely in 2005.
History
The original koruna was introduced in 1892 and replaced the gulden for use in the Austro-Hungarian empire.
When the empire dissolved, as a result of world war one, Czechoslovakia maintained use of the currency.
In 1993 Czecholslovakia was split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The modern Czech koruna is the currency of the Czech Republic.
The currency has been allowed to freely float since 1997, with the exception of a ceiling that was placed on its appreciation against the EUR between 2013 – 2017.
The Czech koruna accounted for 0.4% of global FX turnover in April 2019.
