History
The NOK was introduced in 1875 to replace the Speciedaler when Norway joined the Scandinavian Monetary Union. After the demise of the union in 1914 the respective countries maintained the names of their currencies, despite the fact that they had become distinct units.
The NOK was floated in December 1992.
The NOK accounted for 1.8% of global FX turnover in April 2019.
