Trading the RUB between market participants and across borders can be restricted and complex. The market price is primarily determined without central bank intervention.
History
Earlier versions of the ruble have been used in Russian territories since the 14th century.
The RUB was introduced on 1 January 1998 to replace the old ruble (RUR) at the rate of 1 RUB for 1000 RUR.
The RUB was floated in November 2014.
The RUB accounted for 1.1% of global FX turnover in April 2019.
